Jens Lehmann is convinced that Mesut Ozil will be a big hit at Arsenal after a mixed first season with the Gunners.

The 25-year-old playmaker was in impressive form at the start of the season after joining from Real Madrid in a club-record £42.5m transfer in September.

It’s his first season at Arsenal, but he’s a fantastic player

However, the Germany international came in for criticism following a string of below-par displays for the north Londoners before he suffered a hamstring injury last month.

But former Arsenal goalkeeper Lehmann is certain that Ozil will blossom into a key man for Arsene Wenger’s side in the seasons to come.

“Mesut Ozil will be a big success at Arsenal,” Lehmann told talkSPORT.

“You have to remember that every player who has come from abroad needs to get used to the rhythm of the Premier League.

“You don’t know how your body is going to react after the winter period. In no other league is it so hard to play throughout the whole season.

“You get a little break in Spain and Germany. It’s his first season at Arsenal, but he’s a fantastic player.”
