Norwich City 0 West Brom 1: Pepe Mel ‘proud’ of Baggies performance
Norwich City 0 West Brom 1: Pepe Mel hails his side's togetherness after a close-fought win at Carrow Road
Pepe Mel said he was proud of West Bromwich Albion’s performance after the Baggies picked up three points against fellow relegation candidates Norwich City.
West Brom midfielder Morgan Amalfitano scored what proved to be a 16th-minute winner with a low shot past England goalkeeper John Ruddy at Carrow Road.
Gary Hooper and Robert Snodgrass came close to levelling for the Canaries, but West Brom hung on to inflict a first home defeat on Norwich since December.
It is important that we stay together for the future of the team
“I thought both teams really competed,” Mel told Sky Sports.
“But today we was very good for us. It was a performance that made us proud.
“I think last week the team played well but only took one point. Today we were away but still picked up all the points.”
West Brom moved up to 16th place in the table and five points clear of the relegation zone thanks to the win at Norwich.
“We were all together today,” he added. “It is important that we stay together for the future of the team.”
Mel also paid credit to the Baggies supporters after securing a much-needed win in their bid to beat the drop.
“This win is for the fans, we are all together, West Brom is a family,” Mel said.
