Arsenal took another step towards Champions League qualification with a comfortable 3-0 win over Newcastle on Monday night.

Goals from Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud eased Arsene Wenger’s side to victory and to within one win of securing a top-four finish.

Monday’s Premier League clash at Emirates Stadium prompted plenty of activity on Twitter – and here are our favourite updates, in chronological order.

Clinton Morrison (@morrisonclinton) is expecting an Arsenal rout after the home side take the lead: “This could be any score what has happened to Newcastle I fancy arsenal to run riot now”

Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) praises the man of the match: “Ozil purring today. He’s the best we’ve had since Henry/Bergkamp. Need 2 strikers of his class, and a midfield general like Vieira. #afc”

Wigan man James McArthur (@jamesmcarthur16) praises Arsenal’s Welsh midfielder: “Arsenal have missed Ramsey badly #topplayer”

Joey Barton (@Joey7Barton) is unimpressed by the atmosphere in north London: “Has somebody pressed mute at the Emirates?”

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour (@RealRomfordPele) is looking forward to spending a day with some of the players: “Golf with @aaronramsey and the lads tomorrow. They should be in good form after that training session! #gooners”

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) appears to pay tribute to his footwear: “These shoes are something special.”

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey (@aaronramsey) is a happy man: “Solid win tonight, good performance #AFC”

Newcastle fan Graeme Swann (@Swannyg66) is thinking positive after missing the match: “Having not seen the game tonight I assume Newcastle were all over Arsenal playing silky football and got hit three times on the break…”

Lukas Podolski (@Podolski10) pokes fun at north London rivals Tottenham after Spurs’ hopes of a top-four finish are ended: “Happy St Totteringham’s Day!! #afc #victory #COYG #poldi #aha #RedArmy”

And defender Per Mertesacker (@mertesacker) has the final say: “Next step taken-let’s keep the focus for the remaining matches. Have a good night you Gooners out there! #AFCvNUFC @Arsenal @MesutOzil1088”
