Ray Houghton: Liverpool will find losing control of title destiny tough
Liverpool legend Ray Houghton believes the Reds will find it "very tough" to have the title taken out of their hands
Ray Houghton believes Liverpool will find it tough after losing control of their Premier League title destiny.
Manchester City moved into pole position in the title race after Chelsea were 2-0 winners against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
And the Citizens can move above Brendan Rodgers’s side on goal difference if all the title contenders win their remaining games.
He’s [Gerrard] made a mistake and it has proven very, very costly
Ray Houghton
“It’ll be tough. Liverpool knew even if they drew the game that they could win their two remaining fixtures and still go on and win the title,” Houghton told Sky Sports News.
“To have it taken out of your hands, is tough. In football you have moments like that and it is how you react. If they win both their games, they could put pressure on Manchester City.”
Houghton also reflected on captain Steven Gerrard’s mistake which resulted in Demba Ba’s opener before Willian scored in injury time.
“Steven has accepted the ball in that position many times that season, probably a 1,000 times, he’s made a mistake and it has proven very, very costly,” Houghton added.
“There was still a lot of time left and even with the amount of chances that they created, they struggled to break Liverpool down.”
