Jamie Redknapp believes Jose Mourinho is playing mind games after claiming he would field a weakened Chelsea side at Anfield on Sunday.

Mourinho’s men secured a goalless draw in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

It feels like more mind games from Jose, but he has always gone to extreme lengths to win and I have no problem with that

Chelsea make the trip to Liverpool on Sunday, with the Reds five points clear of the west London side with three games remaining.

But Redknapp reckons Mourinho is playing mind games, although the former Liverpool midfielder wouldn’t take issue with the Chelsea manager picking a weakened side.

“Will Jose Mourinho really play a weakened team at Anfield on Sunday? I’ll believe it when I see it,” Redknapp wrote in his Daily Mail column.

“It feels like more mind games from Jose, but he has always gone to extreme lengths to win and I have no problem with that.

“With Chelsea five points behind Liverpool, he may have decided that the title is gone and he has a much better chance of winning the Champions League. If that’s the case, then that is fine by me.

“If Chelsea were level on points with Liverpool, would he dream of playing a weaker side? Absolutely not.

“But let’s not feel sorry for Chelsea here. Yes, they will be without their No 1 keeper and their captain, but any weakened Chelsea side will not be that weak.

“They have spent hundreds of millions assembling this squad so whichever side they pick will have experienced, household names.”
