The prolific Reds striker was forced off with a hamstring injury midway through the second half of their 3-2 victory over Manchester City at Anfield last weekend.
He may be a risk for the weekend. We’ll assess it more over the next couple of days
Sturridge, who moved to Anfield in a £12m deal from Chelsea in 2013, has scored 20 goals in 26 Premier League appearances despite missing six weeks during the festive period with an ankle problem.
“[He] may struggle for the weekend. It’s not too serious. It won’t keep him out for too many weeks,” Rodgers told his pre-match media conference.
“He may be a risk for the weekend. We’ll assess it more over the next couple of days. That’s where we are at the moment.”
Rodgers did concede that Sturridge could make a quick recovery and have an outside chance of featuring for the Premier League leaders against the Canaries.
“Yes because may well make a real good recovery over the next few days and be ready for the weekend,” Rodgers added.
“But at this moment in time, we’re just assessing him and seeing how he goes. He does recovery very quickly.
“For the first game of the season, he only played 45 minutes of football before he played and scored the winner.
“It’s not as serious as sometimes hamstring injuries can be.”
