Stoke 0 Tottenham 1: We’ll fight to the death, vows Tim Sherwood
Stoke 0 Tottenham 1: Tim Sherwood is happy his side proved that they haven't gone on their summer holidays
Tim Sherwood promised that Tottenham Hotspur will continue to try their best to the death after a narrow win at Stoke City.
Spurs left-back Danny Rose scored the winner through a header in the first half to keep Tottenham’s hopes of securing a spot in Europe alive next season.
They realised there was still a job to do for this great travelling support which we bring and they will try their best to the death
And Sherwood was happy to see his players rubbish suggestions that they are already on their summer holidays with a top-four finish unlikely.
“At this stage of the season it is about trying to get points, it is not always pretty and sometimes you have to dig in and work for each other and they certainly didnt look like they had their sunglasses and flip-flops packed ready for holiday,” Sherwood told Sky Sports News.
“They realised there was still a job to do for this great travelling support which we bring and they will try their best to the death, we have a derby at West Ham we need to win and we will send them home happy with victory in the final game with Aston Villa – that is the plan.”
Sherwood heaped praise on match-winner Rose, with the Spurs boss explaining the reasoning behind his decision to take off the England Under-21 international.
“He is a match-winner for us today, I thought he was performing really well today but I had to bring him off and diffuse the situation, it was so hyped up, I have never seen a crowd so hyped up,” Rose continued.
“I just thought I should get him off the field, get him to the changing room and out of sight and out of mind, and try and diffuse the situation and I thought we achieved that.”
