Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood heaps praise on his Spurs defence after a 1-0 win at Stoke

Tim Sherwood has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur’s defence after keeping a rare clean sheet in a 1-0 win at Stoke City on Saturday.

The north London side sealed a valuable three points in their bid to secure a place in Europe next season at the Britannia Stadium.

This is a tough place to come, you have to work hard and hopefully we’ve sent our great travelling support home happy with the three point

And Spurs manager Sherwood took particular encouragement from their defensive performance against a tricky Potters side.

“This is a tough place to come, Stoke have only lost three times and taken some big scalps and I’m sure a few coupons might have said ‘home win’, but I didn’t feel like that,” Sherwood told Tottenham’s website.

“I thought we were comfortable in the first half and should have gone in at half-time having scored more goals, but when they went down to 10 men it seemed to galvanise them. It gave them a lift.

“I’m delighted with the clean sheet and Hugo has deserved that over the last month or so. Younes and Michael were very good, put their bodies on the line and Kyle and Danny played well.

“Danny was excellent and our match winner today. He’s still learning the game and will learn from that today.

“This is a tough place to come, you have to work hard and hopefully we’ve sent our great travelling support home happy with the three points.”
