Wenger could leave Arsenal this summer, claims Lawrenson
Arsene Wenger could quit Arsenal this summer if they win the FA Cup, claims Mark Lawrenson
Arsene Wenger could be set to call time on his spell in charge of Arsenal this summer, according to Mark Lawrenson.
The Gunners boss has found himself under increasing pressure in recent weeks after a run of just one victory in six Premier League outings.
Delivering the FA Cup might just be the best way to bring the curtain down on what used to be the best show in town
Arsenal suffered a blow to their hopes of a top-four finish on Sunday after they were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Everton at Goodison Park.
And former Liverpool defender Lawrenson says that the Frenchman, who has been in charge of the Gunners since 1996, could be set to leave north London if he delivers the FA Cup.
“I’m a huge admirer of Arsene Wenger. He has done a wonderful job for many years at Highbury and the Emirates.
“But it is looking as if the magic is gone. He is no longer working the miracles that he used to and Arsenal’s fans are becoming increasingly frustrated by that.
“Delivering the FA Cup might just be the best way to bring the curtain down on what used to be the best show in town. Maybe Arsene himself could turn around and say: ‘Thanks for everything, I’m going to move on’.”
