Sergio Agüero and Gary Lineker both tweet their thoughts as Manchester City win the 2013-14 Premier League

Manchester City secured their second Premier League title in three years with a comfortable 2-0 victory over West Ham United on Sunday.

Goals from Samir Nasri and captain Vincent Kompany handed the Citizens a win which saw them finish two points ahead of second-placed Liverpool.

City’s title triumph inevitably prompted a flurry of activity from all of those involved on Twitter. Here, we attempt to round up the best of the reaction after City’s title triumph.

Former Bolton captain Kevin Davies (@Kevin__Davies) is first to offer his congratulations to the new champions: “Well done to MCFC. Going to be hard to stop them from keeping hold of it next season. Liverpool had fantastic season too”

England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) tips his hat to the manager: “Much credit must go to Manuel Pellegrini. Living proof that you can be a gentleman, play attractive attacking football and be a winner!”

Liverpool legend (@DietmarHamann) chimes in: “Congratulations to Manchester City. They showed class and mental toughness throughout the season. LFC done themselves proud,just fell short.”

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero (@aguerosergiokun) takes to Twitter soon after lifting the trophy: “Champions once more! Very excited for our second title in 3 years! A big thank you to all the fans for all the support. This is for you all! I want to dedicate this title to my mom, Adriana, who’s having her birthday today. What a gift, isn’t it? I love you!! It’s also for Ben, who watched it from Argentina. This cup is for you, son! I love you!!! To my dad, Leo, to my brothers and sisters, to my girlfriend Karina, thank you for all the support and constancy!”

Ex-England international Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) feels that City are worthy winners: “Congratulations Manchester City. Well deserved. It has been a pleasure to watch in one of the best title races in recent memory.”
