Louis van Gaal is probably one of the best-known managers in European football, but Australian paper MX have hilariously confused the Manchester United target for a Neighbours actor.

The Netherlands head coach is widely tipped to replace David Moyes at the Red Devils in the summer after the Scot was sacked by the reigning Premier League champions last month.

Despite the 62-year-old gracing the back pages of sports newspapers for the past couple of weeks, the MX editors mistakenly used a picture of Ian Smith, who plays Neighbours legend Harold Bishop, instead of Van Gaal.

The Dutchman, who is known for having a rather large ego – and with cause after a decorated coaching career at Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, will presumably not see the funny side of the gaffe.
