Cristiano Ronaldo heads Facebook’s 23-man squad for this summer’s World Cup as the most popular footballer on the social network.

With Brazil announcing their 23-man party this week and Roy Hodgson hoping his players remain injury-free before Monday’s England squad announcement, Facebook have pondered what players would be heading to the tournament if the website could pick its own side.

Based on each players’ number of ‘likes’, Ronaldo would captain the squad with over 80 million fans – and while Kaka has not been selected by Luiz Felipe Scolari, he would make the Facebook cut, backed by over 27 million supporters.

It’s worth noting that the squad would be travelling to Brazil with only two defenders (Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos). Attack must really be the best form of defence…
