Diego Costa can replace Didier Drogba, says Chelsea legend
Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola backs the Blues's pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa
Diego Costa can replace Didier Drogba at Chelsea, according to Gianfranco Zola.
The Atletico Madrid striker has been heavily linked with a £60m switch to the Blues in recent months after scoring 27 La Liga goals this season.
I like him because he’s one of those strikers who is happy to play up front on his own
The 25-year-old scored a second-half penalty as Atletico were 3-1 winners against Chelsea in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final.
And Zola, who scored 80 goals in 212 appearances for Chelsea, reckons Costa can fill the void left by club legend Drogba in 2012.
“I was very impressed with him in the Champions League match but he has made me sit up and take notice on plenty of occasions,” Zola is quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
“I like him because he’s one of those strikers who is happy to play up front on his own. Costa is a real handful for any defence.
“He can still be dangerous and score goals and that is very similar to Didier Drogba. Since he left, that is the missing part of the puzzle.”
