Gary Cahill insists that he has been “really pleased” with his progress at Chelsea this season.

The England international has been one of the Blues’ standout performers in defence this term and has scored one goal and made one assist in 30 Premier League appearances for Jose Mourinho’s men.

I’m improving and I’m looking to keep on improving

And the 28-year-old feels that the west London side will be in a good position to challenge for trophies next season after reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League and securing a top-three finish in the Premier League.

“We’ve been very close on all fronts, we reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and were one or two wins away from the title, so we have been close but just not quite there,” Cahill told Chelsea’s website.

“Personally I’m really pleased, I’m improving and I’m looking to keep on improving.

“Defensively, as a team, you’ve seen how few goals we’ve conceded this season so in terms of that it’s gone really well.”
