Brendan Rodgers has refused to be drawn on speculation that Liverpool are set to make an offer for “terrific” Southampton captain Adam Lallana.

The Reds have been linked with a £20m bid for the 25-year-old midfielder after the Saints skipper scored nine goals and made six assists in 37 appearances this season.

Whilst Rodgers admitted he was an admirer of Lallana as a top young player, the Liverpool manager was tight-lipped on reports that the club will move for the England international.

“I’m sure you can respect that I would never mention about a player at another club,” Rodgers said.

“There is speculation. Adam is a terrific young talent. For us, there is always speculation about top young players.”

Last week, former Liverpool defender Rob Jones told The Sport Review that Lallana would be an exciting signing for the Reds ahead of their return to the Champions League next season.

“I saw the Lallana story this morning and it was very exciting,” Jones told The Sport Review.

“There is a lot of speculation at the moment about the team. There are 100s of players being linked to Liverpool – but that’s good.

“It shows that players want to come to Liverpool again – and the Champions League is going to help. He would be great player to add to the squad.”
