Jon Flanagan’s performances in a Red shirt have earned him the nickname Liverpool’s “Cafu” this season, and the youngster has finally come face-to-face with the Brazil legend.

The 21-year-old has been a revelation filling in for injured Spanish left-back Jose Enrique in recent months, impressing on the left wing despite being predominantly right-footed.

Flanagan scored his first Liverpool goal in a 5-0 victory at White Hart Lane in December before creating Philippe Coutinho’s strike in a 4-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in April.

Former AC Milan and Roma defender Cafu had tweeted his praise of the Liverpool youth graduate earlier in the campaign, and the pair have finally met ahead of Liverpool’s final game of the season against Newcastle United.

Liverpool’s Instagram posted: “The Scouse Cafu’ Jon Flanagan meets the real Cafu on Saturday night! #LFC #theKOP”

Cafu had earlier posted in April: “Good to see the RedCafu is playing well! Liverpool amazing to watch!

“I will need to come to Anfield this season or next season, perhaps for a Liverpool v Chelsea game.

“Can Liverpool win the league? I think maybe… Chelsea are very strong but in a storm right now. City have a big squad.”
