Ryan Giggs promised Manchester United supporters that the “good times will be back soon” after the Red Devils beat Hull City in their final game at Old Trafford this season.

United youngster James Wilson became the first player to score two goals on his debut since Wayne Rooney’s hat-trick against Fenerbahce after netting either side of half-time.

Sometimes we don’t win, but we give it our all. Keep supporting us and the good times will come back soon

Substitute Robin van Persie added a third before Giggs, who came on in the second half, came close to a potential fairy tale end to his playing career with a strong free-kick.

“I’d like to thank the fans for the support this year,” Giggs told the Old Trafford crowd.

“We know know it’s been tough this season. Over the years we’ve been spoilt with the success that we’ve had. Your support has never changed. Over the coming years, I’m sure we’ll bring you more success.

He continued: “I’d just like to say, keep supporting us. You’ve seen a little glimpse of the future, and that’s what this club is all about. We never stand still and we always give youth a chance and we always try to play attractive football.

“Sometimes we don’t win, but we give it our all. Keep supporting us and the good times will come back soon.”

Giggs, who could still face Southampton this weekend, also paid credit to long-serving captain Nemanja Vidic after the Serbian agreed to join Inter Milan at the end of the season.

“A special thanks to Nemanja who is leaving us this year. He goes with all our best wishes and success in the coming years,” Giggs added.
