Edwin van der Sar believes that Louis van Gaal’s arrival at Manchester United will help the Red Devils attract top players to the club during the summer transfer window.

The 62-year-old was named as the new United manager on a three-year deal on Monday following weeks of speculation linking him with the job.

Van Gaal has already informed the Red Devils hierarchy of his top transfer targets for the summer and is understood to have as much as £200m to spend on new players.

And former United goalkeeper Van der Sar feels that the Dutch manager will be able to bring star players to the Premier League side.

“Van Gaal will spend the right money on the right player to ensure that they are right for United,” Van der Sar is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

“He will know if they have the United DNA of the club inside of them. If not he will let them go and let them go to other clubs.

“You have to play and you have to fight for Manchester United. Not only come for the money.

“What’s more important? £20k or £30k more a week or the privilege of playing for a coach like Van Gaal?”
