Mesut Ozil has paid tribute to one of Arsenal’s all-time greats by wishing Dennis Bergkamp a happy birthday.

The Dutchman, who scored 120 goals in 423 games for the Gunners between 1996 and 2006, turned 45 on Saturday.

Ozil was quick to take to his Facebook page to wish the former Netherlands international a happy birthday, and called for Bergkamp to get behind the Gunners ahead of their FA Cup final clash against Hull City next weekend.

Ozil wrote: “Happy birthday, Dennis Bergkamp! I assume you’re keeping your fingers crossed for our final match next week in the FA Cup ;) #ArsenalLegend #DB10 #COYG”

Speaking last week, Ozil declared himself “satisfied” with how his first season at Arsenal has unfolded following his £42.5m move from Real Madrid.

“I had ups and downs, but I am satisfied,” Özil told Bild.

“Arsenal haven’t won a title for 10 years and, in one week we can win the FA Cup. It would the third cup win in the third country for me.

“Sometimes the sparks fly. I have to deal with it. In Munich, I was injured after three minutes but I wanted to keep on playing. I am satisfied with my first season.”
