Newcastle 3 Cardiff 0: Alan Pardew is full of praise for his players after win relegates the Bluebirds
Alan Pardew praised Newcastle’s “tremendous character” after they ended their six-match losing run with victory over Cardiff City.
The Magpies took the lead through Shola Ameobi’s first-half header, before late goals from Loic Remy and Steven Taylor sealed victory for the hosts and relegated City to the Championship.
We need to recruit in the summer and make ourselves stronger for next season

A number of Magpies fans walked out after 69 minutes in protest at the running of the club and recent results.
But Pardew was full of praise for the way his players dealt with the “strange” atmosphere at St James’ Park.
“Cardiff have got some good players. They had to give it a go and we had to stand up to that,” Pardew, whose side are ninth with one game left to play, told Sky Sports.
“We had to show some tremendous character – it was a strange atmosphere in the stadium and it wasn’t great for the players. But they were superb, it was a difficult environment.”
Pardew added: “Our fans are frustrated. I don’t say this lightly: they’re the best fans in the world but their upset.
“We need to respond to that as a club and look at a couple of things. Certainly on the playing side we need to recruit in the summer and make ourselves stronger for next season.”
