Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge will be assessed over the next 48 hours ahead of their trip to Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The 24-year-old England striker was a second-half substitute as Liverpool attempted to conjure a leveller against Chelsea at Anfield last weekend.

But Sturridge struggled to have any impact for the Premier League leaders as Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side went on to secure a 2-0 victory.

Rodgers, whose side remain two points clear at the top of the table, said that Sturridge is in a “much better place” ahead of Monday night’s game.

“We’ll see [on Sturridge] over the next 48 hours,” Rodgers told his pre-match media conference at Melwood.

“Clearly, as you probably saw, he hadn’t trained since he got injured in the previous game, so it was a bit much. He had worked really hard to get back and we needed something on the bench to help and support us in the game.

“Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. But he is certainly in a much better place. He worked tirelessly this week with the medical team and he rejoins the group.

“We’ll see how he is come Monday.”
