Wenger gives Arsenal injury updates on Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain
Arsene Wenger says both Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should be fit for this summer's World Cup
Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should both be fit for the World Cup this summer, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed.
Wilshere is currently recovering from the hairline foot fracture he picked up on international duty in March, while Oxlade-Chamberlain is sidelined with a groin problem.
I think Wilshere will be completely safe and medically should be all right
Wenger is confident that both midfielders will be fit and ready for selection for England ahead of this summer’s tournament in Brazil.
“Jack is not far away, he’s very close to integrating into training again,” said Wenger. “It won’t be a gamble [taking him] if he’s completely fit, it’ll strengthen the team.
“If there was a medical doubt, yes it would be a gamble, but I think he’ll be completely safe and medically should be all right.”
Asked about Oxlade-Chamberlain’s fitness, Wenger added: “At the moment he’s got an inflamed groin but for the World Cup he should be OK.
“Will he come back for us before the end of the season? I don’t know.”
Wenger’s Arsenal side can book their place in next season’s Champions League by beating West Bromwich Albion at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
