Animalistic! Chelsea legend wants Luis Suarez thrown out of World Cup
Former Chelsea midfielder Pat Nevin wants Luis Suárez to banned from playing in the rest of the World Cup
Pat Nevin has called on Fifa to ban Luis Suarez from the rest of the World Cup after the Uruguay striker appeared to bite Giorgio Chiellini.
The 27-year-old Liverpool striker was caught on camera seemingly landing a bite on the Juventus defender’s shoulder, with Uruguay running out 2-1 winners against the 2006 world champions on Tuesday.
Get him out. That is animalistic! It is not once, it is not twice, it is three times.
Suarez received a seven-game ban for biting PSV’s Otman Bakkal in 2010 and was suspended for 10 matches by the FA for nibbling Branislav Ivanovic in 2013.
And former Chelsea midfielder Nevin wants Suarez to be banned from the rest of the tournament, branding the incident “offensive” to football.
“I’ve no idea what the ruling is from Fifa apart from one thing is imperative: He doesn’t play in the World Cup again,” Nevin told Off The Ball.
“Get him out. That is animalistic! It is not once, it is not twice, it is three times. Mate, you’ve got a problem, get out of there. We don’t need you in the game if you’re going to behave like that. It’s dangerous.
“It is so offensive to this game.”
Uruguay will face Colombia in the last 16 but would face a tough task progressing without Suarez, but Nevin feels it would be a healthy dose of karma after the striker’s famous handball denied Ghana a semi-final place in 2010.
“Maybe what goes around comes around. The reason I say that is because they got past Ghana last time and they shouldn’t have done with that handball and it was absolutely unacceptable. I thought that was one of the least fair things I’ve seen in my life,” Nevin added.
“They got success with that and Suarez was celebrating. It really sickened me. I don’t think they will get that much further now. They must ban him for the whole tournament. There is too much history.”
