Asmir Begovic is expecting to start the new Premier League season at Stoke City despite being linked with a move to Real Madrid.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina goalkeeper has been linked with a surprise switch to los Blancos, whilst Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reported to be an admirer after allowing Lukasz Fabianski to quit The Emirates.

Begovic remained at the Potters despite speculation suggesting that the shot-stopper could join Arsenal and Manchester United last summer, and the 27-year-old is fully anticipating being at Britannia Stadium in August.

Begovic told talkSPORT: “As far as I’m concerned I will [start the season at Stoke].

“I’ve obviously just got home from Brazil. My first thoughts are to rest and recuperate and get myself ready for pre-season, which for me starts in three weeks.

“As far as I’m concerned this is where I’ll be, this is where I see my future and I’m excited about training in a couple of weeks or so.”

Begovic has made 125 Premier League appearances for Stoke since joining from Portsmouth in 2009.
