Arsenal transfers: Carlos Vela signs four-year deal with Real Sociedad
Arsenal transfers: Carlos Vela will not be returning to north London this summer as striker pens four-year deal with Real Sociedad
Carlos Vela will not be returning to Arsenal this summer after the striker signed a new contract to keep him at Real Sociedad.
The Mexican forward had been linked with transfer back to Emirates Stadium as reports claimed that Arsenal were planning to exercise the buy-back clause placed in his contract when he moved to the Spanish club back in 2012.
However, the 25-year-old striker has now put pen to paper on a new four-year deal with Sociedad after the Spanish club reached an agreement with Arsenal to keep hold of the forward.
“I’ve always said that this is my home, I am very well in San Sebastian, as here anywhere, and so I moved to the president when he asked for my intentions. We knew it would not be easy, but thankfully it is resolved and all parties are happy,” Vela told the club’s website.
“This club, this team has the ambition to make it better, and I am convinced that we will perform an exciting year. Now I get to enjoy my last days of vacation with my family to come with great force and to prepare this great year in the best way.”
A Real Sociedad statement read: “Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Arsenal FC which will allow Carlos Vela to continue at the club on a permanent basis.”
