The 13-time Premier League champions were speculated to have agreed a deal in principle to sign the 28-year-old Belgium international after the World Cup.
I know there has been a lot of talk and a lot of rumours but the only thing I can say is that it’s not true
Vermaelen was out-of-favour for much of the season at Emirates Stadium as manager Arsene Wenger stuck with Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
However, the Belgian, who has one year left on his current Gunners deal, ruled out a move to Louis van Gaal’s United in the summer transfer window.
“I know there has been a lot of talk and a lot of rumours but the only thing I can say is that it’s not true,” Vermaelen said.
“Everybody understands my situation at Arsenal and that I have one year left.
“I understand that people are going to talk but I am here in Brazil and I am enjoying my time and I’m focused on what I am doing.”
Vermaelen, who moved to Arsenal in a £10m deal from Ajax in 2010, refused to lift the lid on conversations with Arsenal manager Wenger.
“We talk a lot when I am at Arsenal but it’s not what I am going to discuss here, it is something you are going to have to ask him.”
