Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffers injury setback

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffers a recurrence of a knee injury and won't feature for England at the World Cup

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has suffered a recurrence of his knee injury and will play no part for England at the World Cup, Roy Hodgson has confirmed.

The Arsenal midfielder has not featured in Brazil after sustaining the problem during the 2-2 draw against Ecuador in Miami on 4 June.

The 20-year-old had hoped to be ready for England’s final Group D game against against Costa Rica on Tuesday – but Hodgson confirmed that the midfielder will miss out.

“Alex had a slight recurrence of the knee problem and will be out,” said Hodgson.

Oxlade-Chamberlain missed a large part of the 2013-14 season due to a knee injury sustained on the opening day of the season with Arsenal.
