Chelsea have been given hope in their reported pursuit of Sefa Isci after the highly-rated defender turned down a transfer to Benfica.

The 18-year-old has been touted as a target for Blues boss Jose Mourinho in recent weeks as he looks to bolster his defensive options ahead of the new campaign.

Benfica lodged a bid to try and lure the Anderlecht teenager to Portugual but the player’s representative says Isci was not interested in the move.

“Benfica were interested and made an offer but the player rejected because he would have been in the B team there. That didn’t interest him,” said Isci’s agent Saffet Bakal.

Bakal earlier this month confirmed that the Premier League side are interested in signing Isci.

“Benfica and Chelsea are interested in Sefa Isci,” said Bakal. “Chelsea want Isci to loan to their partner club Vitesse.”

Isci was born in Belgium to Turkish parents and had represented his country of birth from under 15 to 17 level before switching allegiances.
