Thibaut Courtois has given the biggest indication yet that he is to fight for a first-team place at Chelsea next season.

The 22-year-old, who is currently on international duty with Belgium at the World Cup, helped Atletico Madrid win the Spanish league and reach the Champions League final this season after another successful campaign in La Liga.

Courtois has spent the past three seasons on loan at Vicente Calderon from Chelsea after moving to the west London club from Genk in the summer of 2011.

There have been suggestions that the shot-stopper could be set for another campaign in Spain – but Courtois has revealed that he held talks with Blues boss Jose Mourinho ahead of the World Cup.

“I can reveal now that I have had a big meeting with Jose Mourinho in May, before the Atletico v Barcelona game,” said Courtois.

“We talked about my situation. And after this World Cup everything will be clear to everyone.”
