Jan Vertonghen congratulates Tottenham team-mate on last-16 berth
Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen congratulates Tottenham team-mate Nabil Bentaleb after Algeria reach last 16, too
Jan Vertonghen has showed Tottenham’s team spirit is very much alive at the World Cup as he congratulated Nabil Bentaleb after Algeria reached the last 16.
The African side came from behind to beat Fabio Capello’s Russia 2-1 and finish as Group H runners-up, with Vertonghen and his Belgiam team-mates sealing top spot after three successive wins.
And Vertonghen, who moved to White Hart Lane from Ajax in 2012, was clearly delighted for his 21-year-old Spurs colleague after Belgium and Algeria progressed to the knockout stage.
“@nabilbentaleb42: Yes we made it! It's all about how hard you want it! A dream has become true! Congrats big man!

Earlier this week, Vertonghen revealed that new Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino had taken time out of his schedule to call the Belgian centre-half.
“I take this opportunity to thank him for the phone call that he made to me, telling me to focus solely on the World Cup at the moment,” Vertonghen said.
He added: “I was very impressed by Southampton in the last two years, from their style of play and the manager,” Vertonghen added. “I think it’s a great appointment for Tottenham.”
