Japan

Eiji Kawashima Conceded four but in truth could do very little with any of the goals. 5/10

Atsuto Uchida Made a number of important challenges and produced dangerous crosses when he hit the byline. 7

Maya Yoshida Was forced to clear up after his defensive partner Konno on several occasions and dealt well with the aerial threat of Martinez. 7

Yasuyuki Konno A poor day at the office. Conceded the penalty with a clumsy challenge and his distribution from the back was sloppy. 4

Yuto Nagatomo Worked up and down his left hand side tirelessly and delivered with quality. 7

Shinji Okazaki Scored Japan’s leveller with a fantastic header and was lively throughout. 6

Shinji Kagawa Showed in glimpses the quality he possesses and forced a good save from Ospina but missed a simple chance at 3-1. 5

Toshihiro Aoyama Battled hard in midfield and gave some needed bite to his side against powerful opposition. 6

Keisuke Honda After wasting two free-kicks he eventually found his range and assisted Japan’s equaliser. 6

Makoto Hasebe Produced a good strike from distance but rarely threatened after. 6

Yoshito Okubo Missed a good chance in the second half which may have changed the game for Japan. 5

Colombia

David Ospina Made a fine save in the first half and beat this to punch away a free kick from Honda in the second. 7

Santiago Arias Played his part in a solid defensive display. 6

Pablo Armero Didn’t handle Uchida with any confidence. 5

Juan Guillermo Cuadrado Slammed home his penalty with great aplomb and confidence before being substituted at half time to save his legs for the knockout rounds. 7

Fredy Guarin After a poor first half, recovered along with many of his team-mates after the break. 6

Alexander Mejia Took his chance to start well and impressed. 6

Ever Alvarez Balanta Caught the eye with a confident and dominant performance in the heart of the Colombian defence. Was first to the ball in the air and on the floor every time. 8

Adrian Ramos Was caught in possession and frustrated his team mates with some of his decision making. 5

Juan Fernando Quintero Couldn’t reach the level of his other performances at this tournament and a blatant dive in the first half was equally disappointing. 5

Jackson Martinez Held up the ball well and kept his cool to score Colombia’s second and completed his brace with a fine finish. 7

Carlos Valdes Was fairly clumsy in the tackle throughout. 5

Substitutes

Carlos Carbonero A fairly uneventful half from the substitute. 6

James Rodriguez (man of the match) The Manchester United target transformed Colombia in the second half and gave them a fresh spark. Continued his fine form in the tournament and capped it with a wonderful individual goal. 8

Faryd Mondragon Came on to become the oldest player to feature at a World Cup. Made a late save which received huge cheers. N/A
