Joel Campbell is ready to prove himself in the Premier League with Arsenal, according to the Costa Rica striker’s father.

The 20-year-old, who scored in Saturday’s 3-1 World Cup win over Uruguay in Brazil, has yet to play for the Gunners following his move to the club in 2011 after loan spells at Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiacos.

He has always been good enough. He just needs them to give him the chance

Campbell is due to return to Emirates Stadium after the World Cup – and the forward’s father Humberto is backing his son to shine if given the chance to impress by manager Arsene Wenger.

“Hopefully [Wenger] can see what Joel can do,” Campbell senior told the Daily Mail.

“If they bring him back home to Arsenal I will be very happy. If they don’t then wherever they send him he just has to go and keep his feet on the ground.

“He has always been good enough. He just needs them to give him the chance. I always had it in mind that Arsene knows what is best for young ones. He always makes good players.”
