Liverpool transfers: ‘Luis Suarez planned bite to force Barca move’
Liverpool transfers: Neil Warnock claims Uruguay striker Luis Suárez orchestrated bite on Giorgio Chiellini to force Reds exit
Neil Warnock has claimed that Luis Suarez may have planned his bite on Giorgio Chiellini in a bid to force Liverpool to sell the striker to Barcelona this summer.
The 27-year-old could face a lengthy Fifa ban after the striker appeared to bite the Juventus defender during Uruguay’s 1-0 victory over Italy in World Cup Group D on Tuesday.
I know it sounds silly but I thought he would do something to trigger a move away
Suarez, who scored 31 goals in 33 Premier League games last season, has been linked with La Liga giants Barca and Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
And former Sheffield United manager Warnock believes Suarez, who was banned for 10 games for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in 2013, may have decided to create the latest controversy to trigger a summer move.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if it [the bite] was planned,” Warnock told TalkSport. “I know it sounds silly but I thought he would do something to trigger a move away.
“If all of these big clubs are after him, then it doesn’t surprise me at all.
“He may get banned for Uruguay but would still be able to play for a club. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was a clever act.
“If there was any chance of Barcelona or Real Madrid coming in for him, he would be determined to get away this summer.”
