Liverpool’s Luis Suarez ‘was motivated by Roy Hodgson jibes’
Luis Suárez says Roy Hodgson's comments ahead of England game helped inspire the Uruguay striker
Luis Suarez says Roy Hodgson’s comments claiming that he must prove himself at the World Cup motivated him ahead of Uruguay’s clash with England.
The Liverpool forward was the star of the show as his two goals condemned England to a 2-1 defeat on Thursday, with the Three Lions dumped out of the tournament in Brazil after Costa Rica’s win over Italy.
It was one of the best games I’ve played. It’s an amazing moment for me
And Suarez, 27, says that the England boss’ comments helped inspire him to produce a memorable display against his side.
“It wasn’t revenge but in England they talked about the injury and the coach had words that annoyed me,” Suarez is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.
“It was one of the best games I’ve played. It’s an amazing moment for me.
“Maybe a few days ago I thought this wouldn’t be possible. Before the game too many people in England laughed about my attitude over the last few years.
“This is a very good time for me. I want to see what they think now.”
