Dietmar Hamann believes that Raheem Sterling has “the world at his feet” and has backed the Liverpool teenager to sparkle for England at the World Cup.

The 19-year-old impressed on his first start for the Three Lions in Brazil as Roy Hodgson’s men were beaten 2-1 by Italy in their Group D opener on Saturday.

Sterling scored nine goals for Liverpool last season as Brendan Rodgers’ side finished second in the Premier League.

And Reds legend Hamann has been hugely impressed by the young England international.

“I think it will be the player who impressed me most last season – Raheem Sterling. The kid has got the world at his feet,” said Hamman.

“He did ever so well last season, he came on a lot. He added goals and his all-round play was superb.”
