Danny Higginbotham believes that Manchester United’s fixture list makes for a “very promising” start to Louis van Gaal’s Old Trafford reign.

The Red Devils begin their campaign with a home game against Swansea City at Old Trafford, before facing Sunderland, Burnley, QPR and Leicester City in their next five clashes.

United’s first game against a team in this season’s top four doesn’t come until 25 October, when the Red Devils host Chelsea at Old Trafford.

And former defender Higginbotham feels that United can be pleased with their opening fixtures of the 2014-15 campaign.

“I think any United fan will be delighted with that start,” Higginbotham told MUTV.

“The first game is at home and you expect United, by then, to have new signings in and that allows them to bed in without playing Chelsea, Liverpool or City at the start.

“You’ve got the promoted teams when they’re still on a crest of a wave but, all in all, the start of the season looks very promising.”
