Ander Herrera will be staying at Athletic Bilbao beyond the summer, the midfielder’s agent has insisted.

The Red Devils are believed to have rekindled their interest in the 24-year-old playmaker after attempting to sign the Spain Under-23 international last summer.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who signed Cesc Fabregas in a £30m deal from Barcelona earlier this month, was also linked with a bid for the Bilbao man.

However, Herrera’s agent Arturo Canales ruled out his client leaving the Basque side in the summer transfer window.

“There’s nothing new. There have been rumours all year saying United wanted to sign him and then Jose Mourinho and Chelsea, but I haven’t heard anything,” Canales told AS.

“The focus of the player is Athletic and nothing else. Ander is on vacation and he only thinks about next season with Athletic, because he is very excited to play in the Champions League with this team.”

Herrera scored five goals and made five assists in 33 La Liga appearances last season.
