Man United transfers: Andy Cole questions Luke Shaw fee
Man United transfers: Andy Cole feels that the Red Devils have paid a premium to sign Luke Shaw - because he is English
Andy Cole admits he was surprised to see Manchester United splash out a reported £31.5m to sign Luke Shaw from Southampton.
The Red Devils confirmed the signing of the 18-year-old left-back on Friday after also announcing the arrival of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao.
The reported size of the transfer fee has made Shaw the most expensive teenager in football history – and former United striker Cole feels United have paid the premium for signing an English talent.
“It’s a hell of a lot of money,” Cole is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“I don’t think too many are going to spend that on a young kid.
“I know that he’s English as well, its a big plus that he is English, but I think that’s why so many managers go for foreign imports as they’re cheaper.
“He’s going to be a very good player, he keeps improving, he’ll be a good player.”
