Man United transfers: Athletic Bilbao reject £29m bid for Ander Herrera
Man United transfers: Athletic Bilbao reveal that they have rejected a €36m (£29m) from the Red Devils for Ander Herrera
Athletic Bilbao have rejected a €36m (£29m) offer for Ander Herrera from Manchester United, the Basque club have confirmed.
The Red Devils were reported to be on the brink of signing the Spain Under-21 international after the midfielder had flown to Manchester to complete a medical at the club’s Carrington training ground.
However, it appears the 20-time English champions are still some way from completing a move for the highly-rated 24-year-old, who was also a target for axed Red Devils manager David Moyes last summer.
A statement on Athletic’s website read: “Athletic Club wishes to say that it has rejected an offer during the week from Manchester United, around €36m (£29) for the transfer of the player Ander Herrera and his rights.”
Herrera was Athletic’s standout performer last season as the playmaker scored five goals and made five assists in 33 La Liga appearances.
The Bilbao-born player has been a regular fixture in the Basque side since joining from Real Zaragoza in 2011, penning a five-year at San Memes.
