Man United transfers: ‘Luke Shaw is a bargain at £31.5m’

Man United transfers: Luke Shaw's former coach believes that the Red Devils have snapped up a "bargain" despite £31.5m fee

Manchester United have snapped up a “bargain” by signing Luke Shaw for £31.5m, according to his former Southampton academy coach.

The Red Devils confirmed the signing of the 18-year-old left-back on Friday just a day after announcing the arrival of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao.

You will see later on in life that he will be a bargain

Paul Williams

The transfer has made Shaw the most expensive teenager in football history – but Paul Williams is certain that United will get value for their money.

“I think for that money you will see later on in life that he will be a bargain,” Williams told talkSPORT.

“Luke potentially has a long way to go in his development and you will see the best of him at Manchester United.”

Williams added: “Luke is a grounded person and an honest lad, he will be fine in that environment.

“Luke needs that challenge now, he’s at a stage where he needs to progress and to be tested on the pitch and off the pitch and he’ll get that at Man United.”
