Owen, Ferdinand & more: Twitter reacts to Suarez’s ‘bite’ on Chiellini

Michael Owen and Rio Ferdinand both Tweet their thoughts after Luis Suárez appears to bite Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini

Luis Suarez has been involved in another World Cup controversy after he appeared to bite Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini on Tuesday.

The Liverpool striker pushed his head towards Chiellini in the penalty area just before Diego Godin’s Uruguay winner in the Group D clash.

Suarez, 27, was banned for 10 games for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in a Premier League clash at Anfield in April 2013.

The controversy inevitably prompted a flurry of activity on Twitter – and here are our picks of the best updates.

Republic of Ireland forward Shane Long (@Shanelong009) is in shock: “Can’t believe he’s done it again! What a player but wow, scandalous!”

Former Liverpool man Neil Mellor (@NeilMellor33) is disappointed: “From brilliance against England to madness against Italy from Suarez. Brilliant player but he hasnt learned! Terrible to see it again”

Tennis player Jamie Murray (@jamie_murray) is thoroughly unimpressed: “Suarez is a disgrace! Biting again..and then throws himself on floor as if he’s the victim. Hope FIFA put him on the next plane to Uruguay”

Comedian John Bishop (@JohnBishop100) tries to see the funny side: “Why is everyone having a go at Suarez – we all love an Italian !”

Golfer Lee Westwood (@WestwoodLee) chimes in: “Oh not again! Biting is so childish & unacceptable.”

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) doesn’t believe the rumours: “Tell me Suarez didn’t eat someone….was the hero a couple a days ago….”

Burnley man Kevin Long (@kevinlong28) doesn’t think Suarez is guilty: “I’m prob the only one who thinks there’s nothing in the Suarez incident. Chiellini did try & elbow him in the face also? Get over with it.”

And finally, former Anfield hero Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) is “gutted” at Suarez’s latest antics: “Tell me I’m seeing things. Surely Suarez didn’t bite someone again? I’m genuinely gutted. I love watching him play more than any other player but he obviously just can’t control himself.”
