Patrice Evra can make Luke Shaw a complete player, says Man United legend
Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke is tipping Patrice Evra to have a big impact on Luke Shaw's development
Patrice Evra can help Luke Shaw become a complete player, according to Dwight Yorke.
The 18-year-old signed a four-year deal, which includes an option of an extra year, at Manchester United after the Red Devils agreed an initial £27m fee with Southampton.
I think that’s why Evra is still at the club, so he can learn from someone who’s been very successful at the club
The England international made one assist in 35 Premier League appearances last season for the Saints, with the full-back earning a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s squad for the World Cup.
Shaw is expected to be Evra’s long-term successor at left-back for the 20-time English champions, especially after Alex Buttner sealed a move to Dinamo Moscow this week.
And United legend Yorke is tipping Evra to have a big role in Shaw’s development.
“I don’t think he’s the complete article – he’s still a very young boy – but by going to United you’d expect him to develop,” Yorke told Sky Sports News.
“You can see the potential, and I think that’s why Evra is still at the club, so he can learn from someone who’s been very successful at the club.
“He will learn a lot about being at a top football club and I’m sure he will turn out to be money well spent.”
Evra has won five Premier League titles and the Champions League crown during his spell at Old Trafford.
