Matt Le Tissier has warned Ronald Koeman that the new Southampton manager faces a tough task convincing Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Luke Shaw to stay.

Liverpool have been linked with a £20m bid for England international Lallana, whilst the Reds are also reportedly chasing Croatian defender Lovren.

He needs to show them that the club is going in the right direction and they can achieve their ambitions at Southampton

Chelsea and Manchester United are believed to be competing for Shaw’s signature as the two Premier League clubs hope the 18-year-old can replace Ashley Cole and Patrice Evra.

And Southampton legend Le Tissier is hoping Koeman can convince the trio that the south coast is heading in the right direction despite Mauricio Pochettino’s departure.

“Ronald Koeman’s most important job is to try and convince the three lads, who want to get away, that, perhaps, they do still have a future at Southampton,” Le Tissier told TalkSport.

“He needs to show them that the club is going in the right direction and they can achieve their ambitions at Southampton.

“It’s going to be tough though. They’ve had their heads turned. They want Champions League football and want to play for clubs that have got a better chance of getting into the top four, you can understand that.”
