Igor Akinfeev Made a good save from Ki but his consistently poor handling climaxed in one of the all-time great World Cup howlers. He will be relieved his side weren’t as equally empty-handed at full-time. 3/10

Andrei Yeshchenko Did his defensive duties well but offered little going forward and helping his team in attack. 5

Sergei Ignashevich A typically reliable performance from the veteran. Went close with a thunderous 40-yard drive. 6

Vasili Berezutski The skipper lead well and kept the back line organised. Headed the best chance to open the scoring wide from a corner. 6

Dmitri Kombarov Went close with a long-range drive. Technically good on the ball but didn’t look completely at easy dealing with Chung. 5

Viktor Fayzulin Tackled well but struggled to keep possession of the ball. Improved after the change in shape. 5

Denis Glushakov Typified his side’s performance in his positional discipline but was a necessary sacrifice when they needed to change the game. 5

Oleg Shatov A combative performance from the midfielder, epitomised when he was booked for a high foot. 5

Alexander Samedov Blazed a great chance over at the death when he needed only to hit the target to snatch an unlikely win. 5

Yuri Zhirkov The former Chelsea man looked lifeless for the majority and was unsurprisingly substituted. 4

Aleksandr Kokorin Hailed as the poster boy and rising star of Russian football. Failed to show this although he did improve as the game progressed. 6

Alan Dzagoev (Man-of-the-match) Completely changed the game with his dynamism and invention when he came on. 7

Alexander Kerzhakov Provided the equaliser to become Russia’s all-time joint leading scorer. 7

Igor Denisov Helped his side turn the tempo. 6

South Korea

Jung Sung-Ryong Like his opposite number, his handling was a questionable but he had the fortune to go unpunished. 5

Lee Yong Looked short on quality technically but kept his position well to help to frustrate the opposition. 5

Kim Young-gwon Looked comfortable for the most part but struggled after the introduction of Kerzhakov. 6

Hong Jeong-Ho Was left wanting for the equalising goal but otherwise did well, especially when competing in the air. 6

Yun Suk-Young Looked dangerous when he got forward but did not do this was enough regularity. 6

Ki Sung-Yueng Showed his Premier League class with a good playmaking display, conducting everything South Korea did. 7

Han Kook-Young Gave a well-disciplined performance among a midfield that tried to be expressive around him. 6

Koo Ja-Cheol Awoke Akinfeev from his slumber with a long-range strike that tested the Russian’s handling but otherwise quiet. 5

Chung Yong-Lee Showed some neat touches but did not quite possess the penetration to unlock a stubborn defence. 6

Son Heung-Min Looked the liveliest of his side’s attackers but was wild and wasteful in the final third far too often. 6

Park Chu-Young Massively short of fitness and contributed very little. Only positive was some decent hold-up play. 5

Lee Keun-Ho He won’t mind the fortuity of his goal which, despite Akinfeev’s howler, was a decent hit. 6

Hwang Seok-Ho Brought on to solidify winning position but his side conceded just two minutes later. 4
