Ryan Giggs on Man United signing: Luke Shaw can become top player
Manchester United No2 Ryan Giggs believes Luke Shaw has all the attributes to become a top player after moving to Old Trafford
Ryan Giggs believes Luke Shaw has all the necessary attributes to become a top player after becoming the world’s most expensive teenager following his Manchester United move.
The 18-year-old, who made his first World Cup start as England drew with Costa Rica on Tuesday, has penned a four-year deal with the Red Devils and becomes Louis van Gaal’s second summer signing after Ander Herrera’s Old Trafford switch yesterday.
He has developed immensely during his time at Southampton and has all the attributes to become a top player
Shaw emerged as Southampton’s first-choice left-back following the south coast club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2012, making one assist in 35 Premier League appearances last term.
And United assistant manager Giggs has been impressed with the England international’s development at St Marys – and backed Shaw to continue his progress at the 20-time English champions.
“Luke is a very talented young left-back with great potential,” Giggs told United’s website.
“He has developed immensely during his time at Southampton and has all the attributes to become a top player. I am delighted he has joined Manchester United as I believe this is the right club for him to continue his development as a young player and eventually fulfil that promise.”
Shaw failed to score a goal in 67 appearances for Southampton after making his debut against Millwall in the FA Cup third-round in 2012.
