USA

Tim Howard Made a couple of decent saves, and helpless for Muller’s goal. 6/10

Fabian Johnson
Another impressive performance from the right-back. Solid defensively, and looked a threat with his pace when he got forward. 6

Omar Gonzalez Put in a number of important tackles and made some crucial interceptions. Booked for foul on Bastian Schweinsteiger. 7

Matt Besler Largely untroubled by the German attackers, and strong in the air. 5

DaMarcus Beasley A little exposed early on but grew into the game. Germany’s attacking threat restricted his forward thrusts. 5

Kyle Beckerman Made his presence felt with some forceful, and occasionally illegal, challenges. Eventually booked for late tackle on Schweinsteiger. 6

Jermaine Jones Robust performance, with the midfielder winning more than his fair share of tackles, and making a couple of bursts into the box. 6

Graham Zusi Looked dangerous in the first-half, before tiring and being substituted in the second period. Unlucky with good effort that nearly put the USA in front. 5

Michael Bradley Comfortable in possession and a bundle of energy closing down Germany’s midfielders. 6

Brad Davis
Couldn’t get on the ball enough but diligent in tracking back to support Beasley. Substituted after an hour. 5

Clint Dempsey Never stopped running and showing for the ball, but unable to make a telling contribution. Should have scored with late header. 5

Substitutes:

Alejandro Bedoya Missed inviting opening when shot was blocked by Lahm at the death. Otherwise anonymous in the half-hour he was on the pitch. 5

Germany

Manuel Neuer Had almost nothing to do, but swept up well when required. 6

Jerome Boateng Provided lots of width and put in some decent early crosses before curbing forward runs in the second-half. 6

Per Mertesacker Looked after Dempsey well and it was his header that led to Muller’s goal. 6

Mats Hummels Reassuring presence at the heart of the German defence, and did all that was required of him with a minimum of fuss. 6

Benedikt Howedes A little uncomfortable in possession, and looks very much like a central defender filling in at left-back. Booked early on for foul on Johnson. 5

Philipp Lahm Began to dominate as the game wore on, and started to set the tempo with neat and tidy passing. Excellent late block to deny Bedoya. 6

Bastian Schweinsteiger Operating further forward than usual, the Bayern Munich man saw plenty of the ball but final pass was often wasteful. Taken off after 75 minutes. 5

Toni Kroos Measured performance with barely a misplaced pass all match. 6

Mesut Ozil Lots of neat touches and played a few inch-perfect passes. Had decent effort saved in the first half. 6

Lukas Podolski Offered width and put in some teasing crosses, but faded before being taken off for Miroslav Klose at half-time. 5

Thomas Muller More of a threat when moved deeper in the second-half, and his goal was world-class. 6

Substitutes:

Miroslav Klose Gave the Germans a focal point when he came on, and helped the likes of Muller and Ozil find space. 5

Mario Gotze Only on for the last 15 minutes, the little midfielder struggled to get into the game. 5
