Abou Diaby can be a major asset for Arsenal, says Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Abou Diaby can be a major asset for the Gunners this season

Arsene Wenger believes that Abou Diaby can been a “major asset” for Arsenal this season – as long as the midfielder can stay fit.

The French midfielder missed almost all of the 2013-14 campaign due to injury but played 45 minutes as the Gunners began their pre-season preparations with victory at Boreham Wood this weekend.

And the Arsenal manager was delighted to see the 28-year-old come through Saturday’s match unscathed.

“You wish that he just gets through the game, which happened here – I’m very pleased with that,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“If you get a fit Diaby back, it will be a major asset for our team. At the moment we go step-by-step and he came through this game so that’s very good news for us.”

Diaby’s career at Emirates Stadium has been blighted by injuries, with the midfielder only managing 41 appearances in all competitions in the last four seasons.
