Arsenal can build on platform laid last season, says Mikel Arteta
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta is confident the Gunners can build on their FA Cup success last season
Mikel Arteta is confident that last season will act as a platform for greater success at Arsenal.
The Gunners finally ended their nine-year trophy drought after beating Hull City 3-2 in the FA Cup final at Wembley, needing extra-time to get past Steve Bruce’s side.
Arsenal had led the Premier League for much of the season before their title challenge tailed off and Arsene Wenger’s side finished in fourth place.
But veteran Spanish midfielder Arteta is encouraged by the Gunners’s signing of Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy ahead of the new season.

Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Arsenal’s friendly against New York Red Bulls, manager Arsene Wenger lavished praise on club legend Thierry Henry, who is set to line up against the Gunners on Friday.
“When I first put him at centre forward, he said, ‘Look I cannot score goals’,” Wenger said. “For someone who cannot score goals he has done quite well!
“He is a legend at the club, and if you ask every Arsenal fan ‘who is the [key] player of Arsenal?’ they will say Thierry Henry.
“He has a statue in front of the stadium – I think there are only two or three so that tells you what impact he has made.”
