Arsenal transfers: Real Sociedad forward Antoine Griezmann is set to join Atletico Madrid
Antoine Griezmann is to move to Atletico Madrid after the Spanish champions reached a deal over his transfer with Real Sociedad on Saturday.
The Rojiblancos will meet the €30m (£24m) figure set as Griezmann’s buy-out clause, but will not have to pay CPI or VAT on the deal.
Last summer, the Basque club’s unwillingness to sell Asier Illarramendi meant Real Madrid were held to these extra costs, causing the midfielder’s move to the Santiago Bernabeu to rise to €38.9m (£30.7m).
Talks were conducted by Jokin Aperribay himself, the Real Sociedad president informing the player that the txuri-urdin had decided to accept Atletico’s offer.
The transfer will be completed once the Colchoneros conclude talks over personal terms with the 23-year-old France international.
Atleti made a move for the player in 2011 and were close to taking him to the Spanish capital. Griezmann at that time admitted he was keen to play in red and white, though he eventually backed down and stayed in San Sebastian.
Griezmann will be Real Sociedad’s second major summer sale, following goalkeeper Claudio Bravo’s 12-million-euro transfer to Barcelona in June.
