Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger says new signing David Ospina will start the season as Gunners's number two

Arsene Wenger has appeared to confirm the signing of David Ospina after declaring that the goalkeeper will start the season as Arsenal’s number two.

The Gunners have been linked with the Colombia international over the past couple of the weeks following the 25-year-old’s impressive World Cup performances.

Ospina, capped 40 times by Colombia, has spent the past six seasons at Ligue 1 outfit Nice after moving from Atletico Nacional in 2008.

And Wenger, who has been linked with a host of shot stoppers this summer, revealed that Wojciech Szczesny would start the season as first-choice.

“You know at the start Szczęsny will be the number one, then again it’ll be down to performances and, if Ospina shows that he is better, he will play,” Wenger is quoted as saying.
